COMPONENT POND SECTIONS FROM Waterscape Designs, Inc.

The most efficient, cost effective pond building system is now available to the homeowner directly from the manufacturer!!

VERSATILITY:
Two or more pond components can be joined together to form an exciting array of shapes and sizes to meet almost any application.
CONSTRUCTION:
These preformed components are molded in durable fiberglass with a U.V. resistant gel coat interior finish. These are the same materials used to construct boats and many other products that have the ability to stand up to water and the elements. Life expectancy of these ponds is 30 years plus!

FIBERGLASS POND INSTALLATION

  • After selecting a suitable site for the pond, lay the shell or
components on the ground and outline the area to be excavated using a hose or line drawn with flour, etc.
  • The excavation should be slightly larger and 2" to 3” deeper than the pond shell so that the shell can be positioned properly.
  • Place 3" to 4” of damp sand into the excavation and smooth with a rake until you have a fairly level bed.
  • Lower pond onto the bed of sand and work the shell into the sand to create a firm base for the bottom of the pond.
  • Place a straight board across the pond rims and using a level on this board to check that the pond is level. Adjust shell and move sand as necessary to insure pond is level in all directions.
  • After you are sure pond rim is level, fill shell with about 6” of water as ballast. (Failure to add water at this point will result in pond floating up and tilting during backfilling.
  • At this point, you can install any plumbing required (for waterfalls, drains, filter systems, circulation jets, etc.) using schedule 40 or flexible PVC pipe.
  • Now finish backfilling around the sides of the pond with sand. Leave the rim of the pond shell at least ½" above the finished grade to prevent runoff water from entering the pond.
  • Check the level of the pond rim frequently while backfilling.
  • At this point, you can install any external plumbing pumps, filters, waterfalls, etc.
  • Now you can line the exposed rim of the pond with rock, brick, landscaping, etc. to provide the desired effects.

NOTE: After installation, always keep pond filled with water. Under certain circumstances and soil conditions, water runoff from rain, irrigation, etc. can accumulate in the excavation backfill and cause a empty pond shell to float out of the ground. This would cause damage to the pond, destroy rock work and plumbing in the process.

ADVANTAGES OF FIBERGLASS PONDS OVER OTHER POND CONSTRUCTION METHODS:

  • Fiberglass ponds are not susceptible to cracking from (Gel-coat finish is UV resistant) minor ground movement and settling as are cement ponds.
  • Fiberglass ponds are chemically inert so as not to change the pH and water chemistry of the pond. Safe for fish.
  • Flexible liner ponds are subject to rim erosion.
  • Flexible liner ponds are easily punctured, whereas the fiberglass pond is much more strcturally sound and durable, providing for a much more permanent installation.
  • The fiberglass ponds are resistant to root growth and burrowing animals which can cause extensive damage to other pond building materials.
  • If the fiberglass pond should become damaged, it is easily repaired as compared to other materials.

EASE OF INSTALLATION: The fiberglass pond shell is easily installed. Simply excavate, level the shell on a 2”-3” bed of sand, install plumbing, and backfill. Complete assembly (component ponds) and installation instructions are provided with each kit.
